I remember the first time I roasted a squash that I bought from a Farmers Market. More specifically, I remember the look on my nephew’s face when he ate it. It was priceless - and it definitely made me appreciate the difference between the foods that are mass-produced for the supermarkets and produce that you get more directly from the farms. It also ignited a passion for farm-to-table meals.
If you're a fan of cooking with fresh ingredients, like I am, then Farmers Markets are probably already a regular festivity on your calendar. If you’re still getting into it - the list below is a good place to start exploring Farmers Markets in San Antonio. Whether you’re looking for grass-fed meats or locally sourced veggies, you’ll find it at one of the markets on the list below. Take the whole family, enjoy the sunshine (or brave the rain). It’s sure to be a fun outing for everyone.
Pearl Farmers Market
Pearl Farmers Market begins the list for good reason. It's a weekend staple for locals and, pretty much, anyone who enjoys a good market. If you've never been to a Farmers Market before then this is the place to start. There's an incredible variety of over 45 vendors offering locally sourced and produced goods such as gluten-free crepes, fermented beverages (including kombucha), grain-free, sugar-free baked goods, greek yogurt, and don't even get me started on the meats! Grass-fed beef, bacon, steaks, ground meats, roasts, and even bone broth! Live, local music plays from 10:30 am near the water fountain, where kids love to play in the warm weather - so bring a towel along. Dogs are welcome too, so grab a leash and take Buddy for a walk in the open, grassy area! There's a free cooking demo on Saturday mornings at 9:30 am.

2. Legacy Farmers' Market
Legacy Farmers' Market is a smaller market but the vendors here are friendly locals and very welcoming. Most of the vendors offer free samples of their products - so it's a great place for the kids to try locally produced foods and, if they like them, you can stock up. There's a great selection of 100% local kinds of honey, fresh veggies, tamales, and kombucha - at reasonable prices. The free-range eggs sold here are amongst the most flavorful you'll find, with a beautiful golden yolk. There's a live musician playing music while you stroll through the stalls. It's a great market to go to if you're in the Stone Oak area. Take cash, and bags for your purchases.

3. Bandera Pointe Artisan Market
Bandera Pointe Artisan Market is an open-air market that showcases loads of local vendors who sell a great selection of products. You can find unique items and gifts, like organic beauty products here, as well as chemical-free fruits and veggies, meats from local farms, honey, and ready-to-eat foods such as barbecue, fruit cups, and kettle corn. It’s a friendly place to take the family to while you shop for your weekly locally-grown ingredients and enjoy the fresh air. Purchase something from one of the stalls and get a raffle ticket to enter the draw on the first Saturday of each month.
Opening times: Saturday 10 am – 5 pm & Sunday 11 am – 5 pm.
4. Alamo Heights Farmers Market
Alamo Heights Farmers Market is a decently-sized market, with around 25+ vendors, selling everything from locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables to gourmet coffees and organic health products. The meat selection is noteworthy with options such as grass-finished beef, lamb, goat, and wild meats. It’s conveniently situated in The Quarry’s parking lot. This is a great place to enjoy the open air with family and furry friends on Sundays. There is also fresh ready-to-eat food, made by local artisans, for sale so make sure everybody’s hungry! Get to the Farm-to-Juice stand for some incredibly fresh, healthy, flavorful juice.

5. Live Oak Farmers Market (Business Closed)
Live Oak Farmers Market is a great place to buy locally-grown fruits and vegetables, grass-fed meats, farm-fresh eggs, pastured chickens, and prepared foods and products such as jellies and goat's cheese. It’s a vibrant, medium-sized market that’s been operational since 2006. You can feel the sense of community in the friendly atmosphere here. The whole family can tag along. The kids will enjoy the fresh air and picking their own fruits and veggies for the week. There’s seating available so you can grab some ready-made food and sit down for lunch after shopping. Don’t forget to stop by the Lucky Dog Bakery stand and grab some natural, organic, baked treats for your pup.

6. Deerfield Farmers Market
Deerfield Farmers Market is a great place to go on Saturdays to meet local farmers and merchants in an open-air setting. It’s one of the best farmers markets around if you're looking for fresh flowers, microgreens, and CBD products. They also have a wide variety of baked goods, vegetables, organic produce and cheeses, and some unique items like cute clothing for your pets. Parking is very accessible and most of the vendors accept both card and cash as payment methods. It's the perfect place to stock up on ingredients for the week ahead's smoothies at reasonable prices.

7. Huebner Oaks Farmers Market
Huebner Oaks Farmers Market is a medium-sized Farmers Market that gives us buyers great access to local farmers and artisans. There are usually about 20+ vendors with a good mix of products including grass-fed beef, fresh, local greens, and homemade chili. The market is located in the parking lot of the Huebner Oaks Shopping Centre so there's usually plenty of parking available. It’s a great place to sample local products and take the dogs (and the kids) for a walk at the same time. There are also food trucks selling ready-to-eat meals. Most take credit cards. This is a conveniently-located market, as you can stop by the shopping center before heading home - if you need to.
