Temperatures around Texas are starting to drop. This means a lot of time will be spent preferably indoors to warm up and relax as we gear up for the holidays that are slowly creeping up. And what better way to put into practice those booze-mixing skills than now? Of course, what better place to find authentic Texan cocktails and mixed drinks than a Texan bar? Here at TexasRealFood, we proudly offer a shared collective bar experience that would make even our college selves proud.

To start this series of truly Texan mixes in The Bar Cart, here’s what’s going to bring that much-needed kick to your day-ender - the Tipsy Texas Tea.

P.S. Tipsy Texas Tea is a popular mixed drink, which has MANY variations and has been a source of many an argument between bartenders. Some say it’s whiskey, some say it’s tequila, others say it’s a combination, but what’s common is there is NO TEA in Tipsy Texas Tea!

Texas Tipsy Tea Preparation

  • Prepare the old mixing glass and if you don’t have one yet better get one. And, while you’re at it, get yourself a highball glass, wet it under the sink, and place it in the freezer. This is to prepare it for that final pour later on.

  • Get all of your booze together, measuring cup, and mixing glass. Pour some ice into your mixing glass along with all of the ingredients listed except the coke.

  • Cover your mixing glass or shaker and shake away till you hear your head buzz with excitement. Then place it on the counter. Get your chilled highball glass and put some ice into it. Pour the mixture into the chilled glass.

  • Add cola for a simple twist of color so it would kind of look like iced tea then garnish it with a lemon wedge. Kick back, stretch out, and enjoy!

This classic rendition of the all-time favorite Long Island Tea adds a Texas twist by adding a Texas-distilled whiskey and vodka into it. The Ironroot Straight Bourbon Whiskey adds a distinct set of flavors ranging from baking spices to red fruits while offering the much-needed punch from its 57.5% ABV.

Adding some more Texan pedigree into the mix is the Dripping Springs Vodka is a clean and neutral spirit that is mixed with mineral-rich artesian spring water from the Texas Hill Country. Now that’s what I call a fancy Texas-inspired cocktail.

If you’re looking to kick back and release all the built-up stress from the week, this is a great homemade mix that you should try out. The mix of spirits and a sour hint of lime is enough to cap off a long day. Cheers!

And you can answer questions like “What are you drinking?” with “Tea” with a straight face.
