The Southern Sour Recipe

Fridays. It’s one of those days that the majority of people anticipate because it’s that time of the week when we get to relax and blow off some steam. And what better way to do this than to buy a bottle of whiskey and mix a glass of that lip-smackingly tart Southern Sour?

The Southern Sour is a refreshing summer drink that is great for any afternoon pre-dinner drink despite the cold weather. The mix of flavors from lemon and oranges goes well with a good Texan whiskey like Treaty Oak Distilling’s Ghost Hill Texas Bourbon. This Texan-made whiskey is an 80-proof spirit rich in flavors of wheat with hints of honeycomb and charred American White Oak.

Now it’s time to celebrate the end of the week with a glass or two of the Southern Sour.

What You’ll Need

1 Mixing Glass

2 Medium-sized Glasses (an old-fashioned glass will do)

½ Cup of Ice Cubes

Ingredients

1 ½ Oz. Ghost Hill Texas Bourbon

½ Oz Lemon Juice

½ Oz Simple Syrup

½ Oz Orange Juice

1 Orange Slice (garnish)

Preparation

  1. Get your mixing glass or cocktail shaker (if you're such an enthusiast) and pour in all of your ingredients and probably three to four ice cubes. Give it a good shake until you can’t feel your arms anymore.

  2. Get your two medium-sized glasses and fill them halfway with ice. It’s important not to pour in all the ice despite how excited you are since you’ll need room for the cocktail, silly.

  3. Strain out your mixed cocktail from your mixing glass and pour it onto your medium-sized glass. Enjoy!

The Southern Sour is a classic mix drink that speaks volumes about how we Texans like to work hard and have time to relax after a busy day. Best enjoyed on hot summer afternoons, the Southern Sour should be your next go-to if you’re looking to de-stress and relax.
