It’s however, welcoming to enthusiasts from all over the country and each year the festival is getting a bit bigger in attendance and a bit more complex in its venue and offerings.
How It All Began
The idea for the PolaCon came about in 2012 when two photographers from Austin, Justin Goode and Daniel Rodrigue decided to form a small NGO dedicated to the love for instant photography called Instant Film Society. The NGO had a simple goal of bringing those who care about this type of photography together.
IFS started creating so called pola-walks as small gatherings during the Texas State Fair. The idea of a conference grew from that and lately it has become a much grander event and one that draws much more attention and more visitors as well.

What To Expect?
If you haven’t been to PolaCon before it might be a good idea to inform yourself about what you can expect. Don’t worry the conference is open to enthusiasts and even those who don’t yet know anything about the Polaroid photography. It includes workshop, lectures, and exhibits from both big and small names of the art form.
There are also panel discussions that go into details about the specific issues that are important for the instants photography now. This part is made more for experts than for the general public. There will also be pola-walks as there were in the beginning of the conference.

Zines And Things
Another big part of the event is known as zines and things and it stands for fanzines. It’s basically a one big workshop in which those who create zines and scrapbooks have the chance to meet and showcase their work as well discuss the creative process. Last time around this was the most popular part of the conference so now there will be more space for it available.
There’s no fee for using the tables but you need to apply a bit earlier since they will be full. Don’t hesitate to bring your own photos and zines if you have some to show off.

There’s a website and those who help and support the event will post as well – so will the Denton Community Market but it’s still best to check the Facebook page every now and then since it’s the fastest way to be informed.
No Fees
There are no fees for any event in the conference. You can attend any of them for free and you’re encouraged to do so. Those who are there only for the experts are free as well but not everyone can attend them. They are organized on the “invitation only” basis.
It’s important to let the organizers know that you plan to attend to if you do. The time frame to do so will be clearly marked on the invitation and you should stick to it in order to help the conference run smoothly.
Denton Community Market
Denton Community Market is just one of many supporters of the conference, but it’s one that deserves to get a shout out of its own due to its importance for the community. The Market is first and foremost a place to purchase healthy and organically made produce and that’s why most of its visitors go there.
At the same time the market supports local artists, artisans, and communities as a whole. The support for the PolaCon is just a portion of their efforts to bring the community together around the work of the farmers.
